Make Your Own Bath Salts
Making your own bath salts can be a rewarding and economic way to create your own personal spa at home.
The ingredients will vary based on your tastes and what you are looking for from the treatment. You can purchase Dead Sea salts for your blend as they are widely considered one of the best sources of therapeutic minerals for your skin and joints. Other Sea Salts, Epsom salt, Dendritic salt to avoid clumping or even common table salt can be used as well. You will also want to gather essential oils that have the properties you are looking for. Be careful in your choice of oils as some can be harmful to your skin. Check the bottle or contact the manufacturer to make sure.
Other ingredients can include food coloring, glycerin can be used as a softener and moisturizer. Honey can also be a moisturizing agent as well as an emulsifying agent. Just relax and experiment with different ingredient combinations to see which ones work best for you.
For a basic bath salt recipe, simply add a few drops of your favorite essential oils to a large glass or food grade plastic container. Add the salt, mix well, and let sit in a dark, cool place for a few days then try it out. If there’s too much oil, add more salt to the mixture, mix it up a leave it for a few more days. If there’s not enough oil, add a couple more drops.
Keep trying different combinations and ingredients until you find the perfect blend for you. Once you do, you will have found a fun and satisfying to have the perfect bath salt blend for yourself as well as saving a few bucks. What could be better?
One more note: while you’re experimenting, keep notes so you’ll be able to recreate that perfect blend when you find it.

Making Bath Salts – Create Your Own Bath Salt!
Bath salts are a great way to spice up your precious bath time, and creating them is quite simple. It only takes a few minutes out of your day. Plus, creating your favorite bath salt is relatively inexpensive, and best of all; it contains no harsh chemicals or ingredients. Surprisingly the main ingredients in popular bath salts are baking soda, table salt, and Epsom salt. These are all common household items and can be easily purchased at a local grocery or department store. The benefit of creating your own bath salt is you have full control of what you put into your salt, so if you posses allergies of any kind, you don’t have to worry that your creation will irritate your skin or airways.
For starters, get a large mixing bowl with a spoon or some type of utensil. Add 2 cups of baking soda, 3 cups of Epsom salt, and 1 cup of table salt in the bowl. Once all ingredients are added, use your hand or a large spoon to stir everything to an even mix. At this step you can choose to add food coloring to enhance the look of your bath salt. Any regular food coloring product should work perfectly. If you desire a special color, you should mix the colors to your desired look before adding it to the salt mixture, else you may end up with multi colored salts, not good!
Once the desired color and mix is accomplished, the next, and most important step, is to add your fragrance. You can purchase these inexpensive oils at any craft type store. Add the essential oils to the mixture until the desired scent is achieved. There really is no science behind getting the perfect scent, and the best way to determine is to use your own judgment. Practice makes perfect and after a few tries you’ll become a pro at picking the perfect scent. Make sure you add enough oil. The fragrance should be fairly strong. This makes the bath salt more efficient, and you’ll end up using less salt per bath, which can increase savings further.
One trick many people use is to simply toss every ingredient into a covered bowl and shake the mixture until the oils, food coloring, and salt are perfectly combined. This can save on time if you’re in a hurry, and the end results should be the same. Once finished, pat yourself on the back for a job well done. You can further reward yourself by taking a bath with your new creation.
You’ll soon learn that bath salts are a very inexpensive way to liven up a bath session. They also make great, cheap gifts to friends and family. Whatever you use them for, they will be thoroughly enjoyed. That’s for sure!
